Opening Night 2009 has come and gone, and while Justin failed to make the field it was a successful night nonetheless. Justin opted to start in the back of the field for the heat race as he gets acclimated to his new surroundings, and finished 8th which put him 12th on the grid for the consolation which qualified 6. Passing was at a premium tonight, and he wound up 10th at the checkered in a stacked field. The 85 turned competitive lap times and was brought home without a scratch along with some lessons learned throughout the night. Gozzi Racing will be back next week with the focus on improving from here as the tire rule gets a little stricter this week which will help. |

Justin took to the track today for his maiden voyage into the big block division with a private track rental at The Hard Clay. The goal was to run about 50 laps and get accustomed to the additional horsepower and setup changes that go along with it. He quickly gained confidence with each lap, with his fastest lap of the day a 22.5 which was very competitive with the other Modifieds on hand and the dry and slick conditions throughout the day. The Team was happy with the test and will now turn their attention to Opening Night, April 18th. Well the announcement has been made: Justin Gozzi and the Gozzi Racing Team will join the Big Block Modified ranks at the Orange County Fair Speedway in 2009! A JPM engine was purchased from Lee Shultz, and the 2006 Bicknell was freshened by HigFab in anticipation of weekly duty at The Hard Clay. Goals for the year are to compete weekly and improve throughout the season.
